At Rebuilding Together OKC, we believe seniors deserve to feel safe, comfortable, and secure in their own homes. That’s why we provide home repair help for seniors who are 55 and older. Through safety modifications and well-needed repairs, we make it possible for our older neighbors to continue safely aging in place with dignity and independence in their own homes.

Many seniors are unable to afford the cost of repairs, causing them to live hazardous conditions or having to move to assisted living centers. 

By bringing together volunteers, donors, and community members, Rebuilding Together OKC is able to help seniors across Oklahoma County continue to live independently and safely.


  • 72-year-old David has lived by himself since his wife died. Bravely battling cancer, David hasn’t been able to address the many repairs his home needed — a leaky roof, damaged ceiling, holes in walls from unfinished plumbing repairs, crumbling bathroom tile, damaged flooring, and peeling exterior paint. This spring we were able to complete these repairs. Now, David can focus on beating cancer instead of being in fear of living in an unsafe home.

  • We help people like Bettye, a 75-year-old retired nurse. Despite suffering from serious health conditions, Bettye helps care for her granddaughter, Chloe, every day. But her home became unsafe and needed serious repairs. During one of our Rebuilding Days, volunteers repaired multiple deteriorating doors, the kitchen countertop, and the kitchen faucet, in addition to repainting and repairing her home’s exterior.

  • One of our safe homeowners is 78-year-old JM. Despite suffering from Parkinson’s, this gentleman makes a difference to his neighbors every day — from being their Spanish translator to helping prep for job interviews to sitting down with them to make sense of paperwork or bills. JM’s home was in dire need of repairs. During one of our Rebuilding Days, volunteers built a ramp, repaired windows, added missing shingles, installed a grab bar, and cleared debris from his property.

  • After a diving accident, Michael became a quadriplegic. Michael is a dedicated father and homeowner, who has overcome many challenges with a limited income and limited mobility. Rebuilding Together OKC and volunteers helped repair his home after a plumbing incident and roof damage left his home with mold and flooring hazards. Michael often thanks RTOKC staff and volunteers for making his home warm, safe, and dry.
    Make a difference in someone’s life

  • Patti, who uses a walker due to back issues, was living in a home environment with several potential tripping and safety hazards. The entry way to her front door was collapsing and the siding on her home was peeling off. Volunteers worked together to clean, repair, and modify her home to keep Patti living there safely and independently. Patti said that this is the best year of her life thanks to Rebuilding Together OKC.

Making Homes Safer

At Rebuilding Together OKC, our work isn’t about remodeling kitchens or making cosmetic updates. Rather, our work is creating safe living conditions while helping seniors aging in place.

Our work includes:

  • Installing accessibility ramps
  • Adding grab bars and handrails
  • Modifying bathrooms for accessibility
  • Fixing leaking roofs, unsafe flooring, and drafty windows
  • Replacing damaged siding, soffits, and structural elements
  • Addressing hazards that put health and safety at risk

By addressing critical problems that impact people’s ability to live independently, we make it possible for seniors to safely stay in their homes. Without these types of repairs, many seniors end up either living in unsafe conditions or being forced to move to assisted living centers.

Our Mission

Repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives.

At Rebuilding Together OKC, our mission is to help as many of our elderly neighbors as possible to live comfortably in their own homes. We offer free home repairs and modifications to low-income homeowners aged 55 and older to ensure they remain in their homes and age independently with dignity. 

By working together with volunteers, donors and caring members of the community, we transform homes and enhance the quality of life for qualifying seniors throughout the Oklahoma City metro. 

Seniors Staying in Their Own Homes Shouldn’t Be a Privilege

For many seniors, the biggest threat to their independence isn’t their health, it’s actually their home. When homes need repairs due to serious safety concerns, or when the homes aren’t equipped for accessibility, that’s often the moment when homeowners get pushed out of their homes. 

What might seem like small issues like loose handrails or unsafe steps can quickly become a major hazard. And when those repairs feel financially or physically out of reach, it makes it harder to stay in the home.

The work we do at Rebuilding Together OKC helps avoid injuries, restores independence, and makes aging in place realistic again. When a home is finally safe, the risk of falls or other incidents decreases significantly.

Making sure our neighbors can continue safely living in their home is the mission behind Rebuilding Together OKC.

Qualifications for Assistance

We have specific qualifications that residents must meet in order to be considered for a Rebuild Day. 

To be eligible for home repair help for seniors, applicants must:

  • Be age 55 or older
  • Own and live in their home
  • Be located within Oklahoma County
  • Meet our income guidelines (generally low-income households)
  • Have repair needs that impact the safety, accessibility, or livability of the home

Our goal is to support seniors who want to continue aging in place, but don’t have the financial or physical ability to complete the necessary repairs on their own.
