Story of Kenneth Blewett
Kenneth Blewett, a double amputee, was confined to his own living room before Rebuilding Together was able to step in and help. Blewett's son is his primary caretaker and the two, along with his daughter-in-law and granddaughter, live in a duplex. With a donation by the Masonic Charitable Fund and Areawide Aging Agency, we were able to build Mr. Blewett a ramp. A grant from IMPACT allowed us to demo and rebuild Mr. Blewett a bathroom that his wheelchair could get to and fit in comfortably. Lowes provided new windows, interior doors, door widening, ceiling fans and light fixtures. We were also able to open a space between the two duplexes and open up the kitchen allowing Mr. Blewett to move to any room in the house. Two groups of Junior Rotarians painted and Women to Women, associated with the Volunteers Mission of the Methodist Church, helped clean and reorganize. Other volunteers included Donald Robinson and his volunteer group as well as five store managers from Lowes.
